The New School Year and Maintenance of Status

Aug 17, 2015

Categories Speaking Engagements

There is something about the beginning of a school year that makes me feel motivated and excited. I love back to school sales and can't resist buying new notebooks (even if I don't need them). Like making New Year's resolutions, I find myself setting goals for the semester. This fall I am particularly feeling the academic calendar as I will be teaching an Immigration Law Seminar at Tulane University this semester.

Last week, I visited Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana to speak with incoming F-1 students and J-1 students and scholars about maintaining status and navigating US immigration. Not only do I love the drive down to Nicholls, I always have a good time there. This visit was no exception. We had a great discussion about maintaining a full course of study, avoiding criminal activity, working on campus, and making strategic plans for remaining in the United States after graduation. My presentation is available below. Of course, the information is not intended to provide solutions to individual problems or substitute for legal counsel.
